I was lucky. When I was a child I was sick and fortunate enough to have the family, wealth and science to diagnose and treat my rare condition, saving my life.
Most children are not that lucky. And while I did not suffer from pediatric heart failure, it is one of the least researched and most devastating rare conditions. Today, pediatric heart transplants last ~17 years. Imagine raising your child, knowing that they are going to need another heart transplant before college. The waitlist is too long, and far too many never get to experience the best years of their life with a significantly reduced life expectancy. Even then, for those that have the money to get exceptional care and are lucky enough to survive, quality of life is severely impacted.
As you think about your charitable donations, I encourage you to consider donating to Enduring Hearts. Enduring Hearts is the only charity focused on pediatric heart transplants and contributions go towards providing research grants for leading scientists to develop methods to help treat and diagnose this deadly disease. Enduring Hearts is partnered with the top academic institutions to facilitate and manage high yield research.
Because the disease is so rare, it is not a focus area for pharmaceutical or medical technology companies. Progress will not be made without additional research, and these kids need our help. If we don't help them, nobody will. Enduring Hearts is the only charity that works on this.
Unlike other research areas with tremendous attention, here a dollar really does goes a long way.
Let's give them the chance of a lifetime today!
